Diving the USS Vandenberg in Key West

On 22 August 2010, Maura and I dove the USS Vandenberg a couple times. The Vandenberg is the second-largest artificial reef and was sunk as a dive attraction. Both dives were to 95' and the water was clear and warm.

Trip from Fort Lauderdale to Charleston

On 6 August 2010, a friend from Haiti called to see if I wanted to take a trip on his boat from Fort Lauderdale, FL, to "somewhere North". I said Yes, and an hour later, Maura and I were packed and driving away from Key West towards Fort Lauderdale. The next morning, six of us (three couples) headed out of the Fort Lauderdale harbor and set a course for St. Augustine, FL. The ocean was calm and it was a nice 260 mile run. Next we stopped in Savannah, GA. Then we stayed on the inside route along the Intracoastal Waterway and our next stop was Beaufort, SC. The last stop was Charleston, SC. The next morning, all the women and one of the guys flew out to their jobs and homes. Maurice and I hung out in Charleston for a few days, made sure the boat (the 54'M/V Why Knot) was tied up properly, then drove back to Fort Lauderdale.

Trip Pictures - Puerto Rico to Florida

Here are some pictures from a sailing trip on the S/V MarKelle. Mark Hoesman, the boat owner, and myself sailed from Salinas, Puerto Rico, to Marathon, Florida. We started out on 23 July 2010 and arrived on 2 August 2010. We stopped for an overnight rest at Boqueron, Puerto Rico, and then again for a 24-hour visit to Labadee and Cap-Haitien, Haiti. The trip went quite well.
