Day Trip to Taboga Island

On 31 March, we boarded Captain Steve Hooper's boat at the Balboa Yacht Club and left Panama City for a day trip to a popular tourist island a few miles offshore named Taboga.  Captain Hooper is also the Chief Engineer of the Panama Railway Company.  Balboa Yacht Club is close to the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal and is a popular marina among the cruising sailors transiting the Canal.  Taboga has a small harbor and some sandy beaches that many local Panamanians use to escape the busy life in Panama City.  Many of the colorful, tropical houses overlooking the harbor are owned by retirees from all over the world.
